Gina (not her real name) is a long term member of the MOSH family. We have been supporting her for more than four years now and have seen her at her worst but also at her best. Gina was born overseas and is estranged from most of her family here in Adelaide so MOSH has become her family by choice.
Gina loves to attend our craft sessions but sometimes even this simple effort is too much. On days such as these she can be found under the tree in the back garden having a cuppa with one of our Active Listeners or sitting in the craft room just enjoying the company. Being an animal lover, Gina loves the occasional visits from Charlie the pup and we would love to get a house cat for company as well.
When life gets a bit too much for Gina we stay in touch via phone. If we haven’t heard from her for a while them we will call or one of our team will pop over to her house to make sure she is ok. When needed we have attended appointments with her and advocated on her behalf.
Gina knows she is welcome and cared for at MOSH House and tells others how much we have helped her. He has been known to say “I know I wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for you.”
Over the years we have known Gina we now recognise many of the warning signs that her anxiety levels are increasing and we can instigate a higher level of support or professional care if necessary. The support she receives from the team at MOSH House helps relieve the burden on our health system and keeps her at home and in her own familiar surroundings.
Gina certainly is a loved member of the family at MOSH House.
